Pyrodrake, Mengxiang Planet 107 Cultural Park
Oct, 2025
The Third Community Creative Living Festival · Shan Ao Ao Feng Wu Market at Mengxiang Planet 107 Cultural Park, Chengdu, is a community-centered event that brings together over sixty original brands, folk artisans, and cultural practitioners. Set within a revitalized industrial district, the festival highlights everyday creativity and cultural exchange, inviting artworks, crafts, and local initiatives to coexist within a shared public space.
Installed on the central lawn, Pyrodrake quickly became a visual landmark of the festival. The sculpture extends Wushuang’s painterly language into a dynamic three-dimensional form, translating her gestural marks, saturated colors, and rhythmic abstractions into an immersive spatial presence. Its creature-like morphology, simultaneously playful and otherworldly, invites viewers to circulate around it, photograph it, and encounter it from shifting perspectives. Within the context of a community market and a historically rich industrial site, Pyrodrake bridges contemporary artistic imagination with collective public experience—bringing color, movement, and a sense of wonder to the evolving cultural landscape of the district.
The setting of Mengxiang Planet 107 Cultural Park adds a further dimension to the installation. Situated among preserved textile and storage warehouses from the 1970s–80s, the park maintains visible traces of its industrial past while developing into a multifunctional cultural hub. Its red-brick architecture, expansive warehouse volumes, and layered urban memory create an environment where history and innovation coexist. In this context, Pyrodrake participates in the site’s ongoing transformation, contributing to a renewed vision of community, creativity, and cultural regeneration.
