— Echo Lake

Echo Lake, 2016

Poplar, pine, string, glue, guitar tuner, L: 107 * W: 28 * H: 20 cm / 42 * 11 * 8 in.

As the one who has played the cello for many years, I know how hard is to learn an instrument. So I designed and made the Echo Lake as an instrument which doesn't need to learn. Every interval between two strings is the harmonious interval, like, major third, perfect fifth, etc. When players play it, they don't need to think about the music scores or even know any music theory. It is naturally harmonious.

Echo Lake is a rare multiplayer music instrument which allows 1-3 persons playing at the same time. The sound of the Echo Lake can be made by its gear, strings, and sword. Players can rub the bottle of the instrument with the gear, play the strings, or use the sword to knock the strings. The back and the sides of the resonator are made of pine; The front is made of poplar. It's because the density of poplar is lower than the pine's, the sound will come in front of the instrument.
